Our Impact

Featured Rescue

The Schaaf farm near Glen Ullin, ND, is a true family operation. James, Jessica and three of their four daughters still living at home work together to plant and harvest a variety of crops each year. Their girls are also very active in rodeo and sports, which keeps the family extra-busy. In the spring of 2023, fifteen-year-old Aerial was involved in a vehicle rollover that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. She was transported to a Bismarck hospital for immediate surgery to remove a portion of her skull to combat brain swelling. Eventually, Aerial was transported to Craig Hospital, a neurorehabilitation and research facility in Englewood, CO, to continue her recovery. Jessica remained at her side throughout the rehab process, with an unknown timeline for returning home. James and their two other teenage daughters worked to keep things afloat back in North Dakota, but the absence of two key members of the operation was creating many challenges. Through some encouragement from a relative, James decided to apply for assistance from Farm Rescue. Our volunteers and equipment were soon on site to help plant the Schaaf's corn crop, hoping to ease some of the strain on this incredibly hardworking family.
