Planting has begun in earnest here in the Red River Valley. The old adage “April showers brings May Flowers” has us hoping that these somewhat dreary rainy and chilly days will yield some warm sunshine and ideal germinating temperatures. With that said, the recent rains have been much needed, and greens are finally coming forth from the foliage. It’s a sight for sore eyes after the dry Spring thus far.
All over our region, we’re seeing a bustle of activity helping farmers in need. Crews are assisting a Richardton, ND man with getting his canola and wheat in the ground as he undergoes treatments and physical therapy after a traumatic brain injury he suffered while working on grain bins. A Minot, ND farmer is recovering from a puncture wound to the foot, and Farm Rescue volunteers are planting his wheat while he recovers. Near Wallace, KS, a farmer lost his leg during corn harvest last Fall and we are planting his corn to help handle the burden during this trying time.Â
We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers putting in long hours roading, maintaining equipment, and planting crops. You are the heart and soul of our mission, and we thank you.
Respectfully,
-James LaPlante
