Farm Rescue Now Accepting Applications for Harvesting The nonprofit continues to help a growing number of farmers in the Midwest.
JAMESTOWN, N.D., June 11 , 2007 — Farm Rescue, a nonprofit organization founded to help farmers in need, has begun accepting applications for the 2007 harvesting season. The organization announced it will expand assistance to include harvesting for the first time since its inception.
There is no deadline to submit an application. However, farmers are encouraged to apply early, since selection will be based on the severity of the injury or illness in the order that applications are received.
Farm Rescue's mission is to provide planting and harvesting assistance to family farmers who have experienced a major illness, injury or act of nature, which has caused financial hardship. The organization successfully met its projection of planting for 14 farm families this spring season. “We are pleased to be able to help even more farmers with the addition of harvesting assistance," said Bill Gross, founder and president of Farm Rescue.
New Sponsors Donations from businesses, foundations and individuals help to fund overall operations. The newest sponsors include: Agramax, Archer Daniels Midland, Farmers Union Collegiate Chapter, Alpha Gamma Rho-Montana State University, Hornbacher's, Marketplace Food & Drug, Cenex of Minot and Border States Coop.
Innovative Program of the Year Farm Rescue last week was named “Innovative Program of the Year” by the North Dakota Association for Nonprofit Organizations. “We are honored to be recognized as a unique and innovative program, said Gross. "We want Farm Rescue to become a household name, so that farmers know they can turn to us for help in a time of crisis.”
