Farm Rescue to Help Farmers Beyond North Dakota’s Borders

Nonprofit will help farmers in Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota.

JAMESTOWN, N.D., January 29, 2007 — Farm Rescue, a nonprofit organization founded to help family farmers sidelined by major injury or illness, will begin accepting applications effective immediately from farmers within fifty miles of any North Dakota border (excluding Canada).  The deadline for submitting applications is March 15.

The Farm Rescue board of directors unanimously agreed during a January 26 board meeting to increase the geographical area that Farm Rescue serves.

“The purpose of this expansion is to provide assistance to farmers who are residents of North Dakota, but farm across the border in a neighboring state; or are residents of a neighboring state and farm in North Dakota," said founder and president of Farm Rescue, Bill Gross. "These farmers are now eligible to apply for Farm Rescue assistance.”

Farm Rescue's mission is to provide planting and harvesting assistance to family farmers who have experienced a major illness, injury or act of nature which has caused financial hardship.

Farm Rescue is operated entirely by volunteers and is funded by donations from individuals and sponsors who support the tradition of family farming. There currently are 53 sponsors supporting the program.

The most recent businesses to join on as sponsors include:

  • Alerus Financial (all locations).
  • Cargill (Spiritwood, ND).
  • Dan's Supermarket (Bismarck, Mandan and Dickinson, ND).
  • First Community Credit Union (Jamestown, ND).
